...every trip around the tach is an aural treat - a sliding scale of tone and pitch, that classic 911 combination of resonance, tick and howl with the horn section of a manic orchestra thrown in at the upper reaches.

Redesigned lineup fills out.

The purists might question their own judgment when they realize the double-clutch is just a wee bit faster, and just as much fun to operate when you turn to the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, which pair especially well with the optional sport wheel.

For 2013, the Turbo continues on as a 997-generation with the addition of a "918 Spyder" Edition of which only 918 will be made and they will only be offered to customers that have lined up to buy the coming 918 Spyder Hybrid supercar. Also, the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 makes it debut.

The Porsche 911 remains the iconic symbol of a sports car.

The 911 is available as either a coupe or a cabriolet, in rear- or all-wheel drive as a Carrera model, or in all-wheel drive as a Turbo model. The 991-generation 911 Carrera is powered by a 350-hp direct-injection 3.4-liter flat six-cylinder, and the Carrera S is powered by a 400-hp direct-injection 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine. The Turbo is a 500-hp version of the 3.8-liter (530-hp in the Turbo S). Transmission choices are a six-speed manual for the Turbo, a seven-speed manual for the Carrera and Carrera S, or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch known as PDK is available for all models. Standard safety features on all 911 models include bi-xenon headlights, six airbags, front belt pretensioners, engine immobilizer, security system and electronic stability control. The cabriolets also have auto-deploying roll-over protection.

Porschephiles may have been wondering at what point their beloved 911 ceases to be a 911 and becomes just a good sports car with an engine in the trunk. That day may have arrived.
